Have you heard of YARN BOMBING?! If you haven’t, let me just say, I am so grateful to be the one to introduce you to it. 🙂 It has been referred to as “grandmas graffiti”, and “guerilla crochet” and I personally love it because its such a soft, colorful form of street art, which makes such a beautiful contrast to a lot of the materials and areas that are bombed. I’m a big fan of street and guerilla art- I love to see things like that when I travel and it was one of my favorite parts of living in NODA years ago. 🙂 Human beings never, cease to amaze me with their talents and boundless creativity. I am so appreciative of these lovely examples below, of how the human spirits just spill out of peoples souls into creative forms- or in this case, the soul pours out in the form of yarn! ENJOY!
I don’t think anyone actually knows this about me- but I really love yarn. The colors, the textures, the materials and possibilities! I even have a small cabinet in my bedroom with a glass door where I can see my yarn collection, organized by color, (part of it before it overflowed into another basket) and it is just so beautiful and soothing to look at. The unusual thing though, is that I don’t know how to knit or crochet. I tried to learn knitting at one point and became incredibly frustrated. I have this strange tendency to zone out and go inside my own mind, and this can be really helpful im some forms of art like my abstract painting, or making wire dread wraps, or anything that my mind is very used to doing like driving- I can drive safely without even realizing I am driving. However- I miss exits a lot, and with something new to me like knitting I did not have that muscle memory and continued to mess it up without even realizing it. So with me, my mind doesn’t go to knitting when I think of yarn, it goes to a lot of other textile craft concepts. Soft jewelry, huge wall hangings and tapestries made of various textile materials, making beads from yarn and string and fabric bits.. I have worked on quite a few wall hangings that nobody has seen because I have spent years on them and never got them exactly how I wanted them, but they have been so much fun. I think one day I could make some really beautiful things with yarn. I am excited to continue practicing. I used to be annoyed that I can’t just do what other people are doing, but I am an unusual little person who always has other ideas I need to make a reality. My mother is very talented with yarn in knitting and I do hope one day I can learn, the things she makes are amazing! But for now I will explore some other options that keep rolling around evolving in my mind.
And thank goodness we don’t all think the same and have the same talents right? I mean, if that was the case who would be out there deciding statues need leg warmers?!
Thank you for stopping by my site and I hope you have a beautiful and blessed day. 🙂 [Share which one was your favorite in the comments! I would also love to hear if you do any yarn crafting or art. 🙂 ]
